VARN WOOD PRODUCTS

Although our family started in the turpentine industry shortly before the Civil War, we started producing lumber somewhat recently, relatively speaking. Varn Wood Products, located in Hoboken, Ga was founded in 1968 and began as a chipping facility for a nearby paper mill. The company is wholly-owned and managed by the Varn family via a non-family general manager.

We started producing lumber in 1969 and in a good week sawed 200,000 board feet. Over the years, we have steadily improved our equipment such that we now produce 10 times that volume on a single shift. Several years ago, we built a wood pellet plant which turns the by- products from the saw & planing mills into combustible material

The sustainability of the timber harvested from our lands, as well as that which we buy, is third-party certified.

We employ 81 people, a significant number of which have worked for us more than 10 years. Our employees receive competitive pay, vacations, significant bonuses, health insurance and a 401K plan.
